Rockin' Roman Experience Day!

In year 4, we were treated to a visit from a 'real' Roman soldier, Guyus, who taught us ALL about his life in Rome and the Roman army. He even brought with him all of his armour and artefacts!

It started off very confusing as he came in speaking in Latin, none of us had a clue! We then learnt about the Celtic way of life and how this changed when the Romans invaded.

Next we learnt about the Roman army. We learnt that it is best to come from the countryside to become a soldier, so lots of us want to now live on a farm! We discussed the roles of different people in the army including, Optio and Centurion - he was an Optio. A couple of us even got the great (not!) job of showing the class what a soldier in the Roman army wore, have a look:

Malachi and Shalom were great models!!

Also, great actors!

Next, we did the best bit - the battle reenactment. We had replica Roman shields and swords - foam swords, of course! We were split into 2 groups, one did a shield routine and the other tried to ATTACK!!!!

Check it out below:

We LOVED our Roman Experience Day and we can't wait for more fun times in Year 4!!
